Dashcam KEY WORDS
FHD/1080p, 2k, 4k
These all are words describing the resolution of the video sensor, basically they refer to the video quality, FHD/1080p being the lowest and 4k being the highest (2k sits in between). If you want to be able to catch number plates 4k is probably the only solution.
1ch, 2ch, 3ch
"ch" stands for channel
1ch is a front only dashcamera.
2ch is a dual camera system, usually a front camera and a rear camera, someone might want to use the second camera as an interior cabin camera instead.
3ch.....3 cameras: Front, Rear, Interior
Parking Mode
Dash cameras record continuously while driving, some record even when the car is parked. High end brands have this feature built in and all the parts needed right in the box. Some other not so high end cameras need extra accessories to be able to record while parked.
Memory Card/Storage
Dash cameras save their footages onto a removable micro SD card, many cameras on the market have a dedicated app for iPhone and Android phones that allows you to connect wirelessly and download videos without physically removing the card.
The larger the memory card, the more footage you can store and the further back you can go when reviewing past events.
Once the memory is full the oldest footages will be automatically deleted to make space to new recordings.
Hardwire Kit
Is one of those parts mentioned above included in the high end cameras needed to get parking mode. Cameras sold without a hardwire kit they come with a cigarette lighter socket as standard and the hardwire kit would be an extra accessory.
Dedicated Battery/Backup Battery
A dash cam is typically powered by your vehicle’s main battery, but in some cases, a dedicated battery can be the smarter choice. It allows for extended parking mode, keeps the dash cam fully independent from the car’s battery, and helps avoid warning signals in vehicles with sensitive electrical systems.
